painting with vitreous enamel
Vitreous enamel artwork, also known as enameling, is a centuries-old form of art that involves fusing glass to metal to create a smooth, glossy finish. The technique dates back to ancient Egypt and has been used to adorn jewelry, household items, and religious artifacts.
Glass is applied in a dry form or wet form in various painting techniques. The glass is transparent, translucent, or opaque, and all are typically combined in many layers. A layer is fired, removed from the furnace, cooled, and the next layer is applied. A piece can be fired up to 40 times depending on the effect desired.
